Annother theory: the snap stores profiles in
$HOME/snap/firefox/common/.mozilla. Probably until 21.10 and since they changed
to ff snap first time this was a symlink to $HOME/.mozilla.
Now the install of the new ff snap in 22.04 replaced this symlink by a phsyical
directory. So it had no profiles but the directory existed. So the import was
not triggered at first start.

Maybe it is the even better workaround to just delete the
$HOME/snap/firefox/.mozilla folder (or rename it) and restore the symlink to
$HOME/.mozilla or just restart ff afterwards.
However I haven't tested this yet. Am not sure what else is stored in the
$HOME/snap/firefox which you would loose with the solution that was written
first.
