Hi Neil,

Great plan and thanks for the thinking you've put into it!

To reiterate for everyone -- Oracle is handing the domain name 'netbeans.org'
to Apache, which means Apache will be serving up 'netbeans.org' (hence it
is in no way at all going away, indeed 'netbeans.org' is very important and
no one is talking in any form of 'taking it out of the ether'), and the
idea in the Apache NetBeans community is to reroute everything currently on
'netbeans.org' to equivalent locations on 'netbeans.apache.org'.

Indeed, to respond to a question from Neil, now that the documents are
signed, this process is only now beginning. That means Oracle will continue
hosting the old site for the time needed to transition it and its content
to Apache.

A question indeed is what will happen to the NetBeans artifacts, i.e., the
downloads for NetBeans IDE 8.2 and earlier releases. One point to be aware
of is that these are not physically found on the Oracle servers, but
instead at Akamai. So, netbeans.org/downloads only contains the download
pages themselves. The actual binaries are served from Akami CDN. So when '
netbeans.org' moves to Apache, it will be still be pointing to Akami and
downloads should continue to work, however, the question is whether Apache
or someone else can take over the Akami download location, where the bits
are available.

The most important content on 'netbeans.org' are the tutorials and learning
trails: https://netbeans.org/kb/index.html. These are part of the donation
that is currently being wrapped up and those tutorials will then be given
in a ZIP file, together with the related images, to us here in Apache
NetBeans, and we will then be able to include them in the equivalent
location at 'netbeans.apache.org'.

Aside from that, I don't know if there's anything at 'netbeans.org' that we
want to have at 'netbeans.apache.org'?

Hope these points help us further along in this discussion.

Thanks,

Gj
