That is very cool.

But that would only work with phones that support USB On The Go and the (ARM 
based) Arduino Due which has OTG support.

Personally I would be more interested in BlueTooth LE support. Both Apple and 
Google are discouraging connecting to accessories or devices over USB and are 
actively encouraging BlueTooth LE (Low Energy). Because it is much simpler and 
requires no certification and cannot potentially kill you device if you 
accidentally cross the wires.
