WebUSB and WebBluetooth both look very promising. I suppose one benefit of using USB in a project would be to charge the phone while it is being used. If you are making a smartphone powered robot for example(like Romo), then using the USB would make sense. Also, bluetooth from my experience can sometimes be unreliable and that could be an issue with some real time applications. On the other hand, the ease of use of bluetooth would be very appealing to beginner level hardware hackers.
