Hey Fredy,
On most devices there is some sort of AGPS support. Many of these have
a fallback position that is used when you don't have a clear view of the
sky or during acquisition. For example, supl1 in b2g 1.0.1 has cell
based position. In 1.1, we'll have wifi fallback. In order to make
fallback work correctly, we need to transmit data from the device to a
location server that provides this assistance.
So, instead of just doing this, we wanted to be up front about what is
going on and show it during first run. Other mobile operating systems
have a very similar flow which you might be familiar with.
The "More about your privacy" link is a work in progress still and we
are working on the exact text. If you have specific concerns or you'd
like to help with the text, let me know (send me email or file a bug)
I think we should create our own database and we are currently
investigating that. Take a look at our roadmap [1] and join us on #geo
on irc.mozilla.org.

Hello,
I came across with one of the FTU screens [1] about geolocation. On this
screen, it is written that FxOS will use "data such as GPS, WiFi and
mobile networks" to help determine my location. Also, it is written that
data will be "sent to Mozilla and other service providers and will be
used in the aggregate to improve those location databases."
I tried to find information about these providers and these databases
but no luck. At the "More about your privacy" section [2] there is a
paragraph about location, where there is the phrase "geolocation service
providers" but again it doesn't name any of them.
I am interested to know if there is any relative bug, discussion,
etherpad or wiki page I am missing.
Also interested to know if Mozilla is going to create and support its
own database or if there are thoughts on using and contributing to other
open databases [3][4][5][6][7]?
Thanks,
fredy
