Sadly, I have to agree with this. I had hoped for a Firefox grade, *reasonably safe* browser. That's not what you get though. I tried to convince people on the Bugtracker that not being able to update the browser is an unacceptable security bug *by design*. They have their reason to not be able to fulfill this, but the reasons are bad. It's just bad design and everyone with a little bit of OS experience (e.g. run a sane linux distro like Slackware for a month) could have spotted that early on. They hide behind the fact that updates are carrier bound, because updating gecko could break dialing which could break emergency calls etc. Fact is, as long as there is no way to provide reasonable browsing safety (e.g. on-demand updates of Gecko) FxOS might just as well not exist. This should be an issue blocking all branches. Instead the devs say, well we can't fix it easily now, so we ignore it. If this kind of OS design failure keeps happening in FxOS I don't see a future for this platform. I am really big fan on openness and all but what point is there in using a joke OS? Actually the mere ignorance of knowingly letting me use a vulnerable Web- browser is a "never again"-card for FxOS. _______________________________________________ dev-b2g mailing list [email protected] https://lists.mozilla.org/listinfo/dev-b2g
