I've tested all the devices I had handy, I've got more and as soon as I get my hands on them I'll test them too. Before writing down my results I'm pretty confident that the behavior you're experiencing is not caused by a bug in either Gecko or Gaia but is probably a limitation of the hardware and/or driver of the ZTE Open. 1) Geeksphone Peak, master nightly build, 4 fingers, no problem having fingers side by side and two fingers are merged only when they're very close to each other. 2) Flame, master nightly build, 5 fingers, no issues with side by side fingers and accuracy when fingers are close seems even better than the Peak. 3) Tarako, v1.3t nightly build, 2 fingers, when they're at the same Y coordinates the second finger disappears, keeping one finger on the screen and dragging the other vertically you can see the second touch zone disappear as soon as it reaches the same height of the first one and then reappear when it moves away. 4) Hamachi (Alcatel ONETOUCH Fire), 2 fingers, when they're at the same Y coordinates the second finger disappears, to make things works once that happens it seems that the detection of the second finger goes down the drain. Keeping one finger on the screen and dragging the other vertically you can see the second finger being correctly detected until it reaches the same Y coordinate as the first one, then once you move away the second finger will be intermittently either detected or not. This looks more like a driver bug rather than a limitation of the touchscreen. Gabriele
