I haven't played that game... but my Galaxy Nexus has the same lockscreen issues.
I used to be able to put a pin on it then hit the power button a few times (first to wake it, then make the screen black again, then to wake it again but this time the pin screen shows up). It doesn't seem like I can do that anymore (use a pin on the lockscreen), so I just disable the lockscreen each time I flash it. Note that tapping the lock hasn't been doing anything for me since these issues started happening. I'd be happy to hop in IRC (or chat here) to test this.
