Hi I'm not sure if you guys are on https://www.reddit.com/r/FireFoxOS, but yesterday I read an interesting feedback from a developer which I want to share here, as I feel it's valuable.
I have my grumbles from app developer perspective, I'm not specializing on apps, just want to share some experience, feel like this thread is appropriate to gather some gripes related to FxOS ecosystem. 1. To push update to existing packaged(the one, that could work offline) app on firefox marketplace you'll have to wait 2 weeks, if you have some bug in app, and it was found by reviewer, congrats, another 2 week waiting time. 1 hour for chrome app store for example, that dramatically reduce number of updates you are willing to push. 2. No resource for fx developers to gather and discuss some problems or share experience in app development, no community management from Mozilla side at all, seriously Mozilla, why not to setup Discource and gather developers in one place !? 3. No business for app developers, if you are concentrating on cheap phones for 30-35$, that means no one buys you app even for 1$, that will limit platform in both quality and quantity of the apps. 4. No analytics, I don't know if app is being used or not, can't add Google Analytics because security restrictions for packaged apps and no solution from Mozilla. That means I don't have any actionable data about the app, how many active users, what's average user session, is it worth pushing updates or it's dead and no one needs it? And somewhat personal experience, I have an app that rated 4.5* on Chrome store, on FxOS - 2*, why - cause people demand app content in spanish while it's english only, well, I guess that's result of platform distribution. I wish FxOS to succeed, but in it's current state it's far from being good both from user and developer perspectives.
