#1 ADODb is outdated and quite old
#2 PDO is definitly the way to go - but....

PDO has a few flaws which are addressed in PDO2 which is (afaik) still under development. And it might be as well that PDP2 is not compatible or won't be finished soon.

Therefore I would not vote for going into this direction. Better use the native driver and wrap it into your own ORM layer.
