Good Morning,

after investigating the facts I have to change my opinion ;)

I believe that PDO is the way to go. In PHP 5.3 there is the option that PDO uses mysqlnd also, therefore - if used properly the advantages of the "zval" support are there. Nevertheless there are some flaws when using the new PDO as zval is not support everywhere.

A good explananation can be found in the Blog of Ulf Wendel - even tough this is an old posting everything important is explained there.

PDO has a few flaws which are addressed in PDO2 which is (afaik) still under development. And it might be as well that PDP2 is not compatible or won't be finished
soon.

The tendency is going towards to be backwards compatible with PDOv1 and to replace current ADOdb functionality -> it's quite suitable. Using the native driver and a own wrapper would surely improve OXID, but PDO might be increase performance. It would still be less work to fit PDO into OXID and its needs, than write an own abstraction layer based on mysql or mysqli.

Which flaws do you mean exactly?

Best regards,

Christopher Simon
