The tendency is going towards to be backwards compatible with PDOv1 and to 
replace current ADOdb functionality -> it's quite suitable. Using the native 
driver and a own wrapper would surely improve OXID, but PDO might be increase 
performance. It would still be less work to fit PDO into OXID and its needs, 
than write an own abstraction layer based on mysql or mysqli.

Which flaws do you mean exactly?
