In the accessibility panel, it looks like we're skipping inert elements for all the checks, but I'm not sure if this is appropriate or not

Yes, that's expected I believe, because inert elements don't show up in the a11y tree.

    As of ~now I intend to turn support for the inert attribute on by

    Thanks to Igalia for contributing the initial implementation of this

    Spec: https://html.spec.whatwg.org/#the-inert-attribute

    Standards Body: WHATWG
    Platform Coverage: All
    DevTools bug: N/A (maybe we could expose inert roots with a bubble or
    something?)
    Standards position:

    <https://github.com/mozilla/standards-positions/issues/174>
    Other browsers: Both other engines are shipping this. This has taken us
    rather long because of debate about what the right a11y tree semantics
    of inert should be, see <https://bugzil.la/1767561
