Hi Linus,

It would be good to hear from Kai as we did not think adding a project with the
same goals as argouml-sql would be good. Long term we could merge the projects
but we don't know enough about argouml-sql.

We were also wanting this to have some identity as a database modeling tool.
If it's on the ArgoUML site then people familiar with ArgoUML would find it,
but people looking for an open source database modeling tool might not.

If Kai agrees, maybe we could add it as a project to ArgoUML and have a
SourceForge site that refers to the Argo site?

Jeff

Hello Jeff!

This sounds great.

I could create another project for you on tigris if you can just come up with
another name.

argouml-db?

argouml-sql2?

argouml-reverse-engineering-sql? (This might be too long to be accepted ;-)

The best thing would be if you could provide both implementations from the same
project and eventually a merge to provide the best possible features for the
users of ArgoUML.

2007/9/13, Gunderson, Jeff <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

It's taken longer than I would expect but we finally have our module working
now with the ArgoUML 2.4 version.

We are thinking of putting it up on SourceForge as there already an argouml-sql
project. If anyone wants to see the User Guide or wants me to send the module
let me know.

Jeff

Yes, the tool can already generate SQL for the databases below and can reverse
engineer an existing database. The profile we are using is described in the
document I sent.

I'll try to get the project available for open source as soon as I can. Until
then, I could put together a running version based on an older version of
argouml if you want to see it.

So the tool can already generate SQL for the databases you mentioned
and reverse engineer an existing database? But perhaps only using the
profile you use for modelling. I used a profile that's based on Scott
Ambler's profile at:

http://www.agiledata.org/essays/umlDataModelingProfile.html

I modified it a bit to be able to design a logical relational datamodel.
And perhaps you could extract the important information of the attached
document so I can compare the two profiles.

Like Tom said it could be a good idea to publish the sources and let
others also have a look on it. I would especially be interested in
adapting the different code generators for Oracle etc. to fit into
the current structure of ArgoUML-SQL.
