I've just nearly finished an eclipse plugin for merlin development. Debugging and some wizzards are already working fine. I will refine the things a bit and than deloy it if anybody is interested in.
So if you need more ideas of eclipse internals - maybe I can help you. I'm also working on an hibernate integration through the context feature of merlin. This really looks fine. My idea here is, to offer different contexts for each application layer, so that a good layering of the application architecture is supported. Right now I'm just on vacation :-) but if you have any ideas... I'll think about.
