2. I think we are on the brink of needing to go straight to Avalon 5 (note the missing 'framework' word), if not for any other reason than "Marketing" and "Distinctions". That will clear up any misconceptions of where the line in the sand is drawn.
+1
4. Aaron is basically saying, "Can I have the http://avalon.apache.org/framework URL back and populate it with the AF4.1 documentation + any new documentation that I write and doesn't have meaning in Avalon 5 Single Platform?"
It doesn't even have to be at http://avalon.apache.org/framework. We can do a redirect to somewhere else.
Basically, taking my w3c HTML example again, I feel like we've moved to HTML 4.01 and getting ready for XHTML 1.0 and I just want to make sure I can still find HTML 3.2 docs somewhere. They should even point out some of the issues with the old spec. But they should at least be available, just like the old releases are.
I also think this is a different issue than keeping Phoenix docs. With Phoenix at least most of the Loom docs are similar or you can get the docs with Phoenix itself. But for the Framework, there are no other docs nor any other project which is qualified to host them.
Finally , I think the prior framework docs were insufficient. I'm looking to rewrite and update new docs, not just copy the old ones.
I am less certain that this section should be advertised on the front page, but I would be in favour of going via a 'Legacy' link in Central, and that page explains the current situation, with references to other so called Avalon containers, AF4.1 framework docs and how the Avalon 5 Single Platform fits into all of that.
That's the intention of this page:
http://avalon.apache.org/central/legacy/index.html
But it's not perfect.
Have I fueled the Flamefest or got someone to react positively, and can reconsider the 'My way or No way' stance.
Thanks again Niclas.
