Gang, After overwhelming support on the users@ list to form a Merlin TLP, and some positives expressed from various ASF camps, I am pushing ahead with a proposal of forming a Merlin TLP to the Board.
The purpose for this is to once and for all, decouple Merlin from its 'opposition' and remove any level of confusion regarding what are Merlin specifications/objectives and what are Avalon specifications/objectives. I thought it before, and I still think this is the best way to restore peace and harmony, that has riddled the Avalon community as long as I can remember. The previously aborted attempt will form the starting point, and that includes that the following people have actively seeked to be part of the new Merlin project (alphabetically); * Timmothy Bennett * Aaron Farr * Niclas Hedhman * Alex Karasulu * Stephen McConnell * Andreas Oberhack Since then, one more 'Merlin committer' has joined us; Cameron Fieber, and I would like to add him to the above list, to strengthen our JMX commitment. Please notify any deviation to this. Furthermore, I am preparing the supporting documentation and will as soon as it is ready, post it for public review. Once that review is completed, the Avalon PMC will be asked to endorse this proposal, and it is then submitted to the ASF Board, hopefully before the next board meeting.
