This sounds like a great update. One of the reasons we chose Avro was for its 
java and .net /c# support, but it seems like .net is only barely supported with 
a 32-bit DLL. The work of this ticket  seems important to be able to assert 
current .net is supported.

A question. If this is done would it be easy to get Snappy compression as a 
supported codec in .net Avro?
