First, sorry for the rank inelegance in my turn of phrase ("practical approach"). I didn't mean to be rude.
My idea is to develop a system by which activity reports can be compiled (and automated) with either a group's collaborative document or a group's documents without detailed access to the content. The meta data from a single ODF document can be exported to a document viewable in a web browser and multiple documents viewed as an RSS Feed. I don't see any reason to build these capabilities into an Office Suite (nor into ODF). A generic mechanism to increase the number of fields available would be very welcome. Likewise, the ability to draw meta data from anywhere in the document would be a huge advantage in Evidence Based Medicine and its derivatives (e.g. Evidence Based Librarianship etc.). You do start to lose me just a little bit when you talk about a generic API for meta data. For reasons outlined here ... http://www.geocities.com/gannon_dick/TheBigPicture.pdf (case sensitive) I believe that a meta data API needs a required core of elements. When all is said and done, and at least where meta data is concerned, the appearance of information is not information. Re-formats/rewrites don't do harm, but they don't do much good either. My fear is that a generic API would fail to put proper emphasis on key (independent/isolated/monatomic) elements. Is there a way to prioritize RDF elements or are they all peers ? If I had my druthers, one would not be able to save a document without getting a nag pop-up about missing meta data, but that is probably way to draconian for common consumption. --Gannon --- Bruce D'Arcus <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > On Oct 20, 2006, at 5:48 PM, Gannon Dick wrote: > > > I have a slightly different, but I think more practical, approach > to > > Meta Data in ODF documents. > > OK, I managed to access the documents, but I really don't understand > what you're advocating.
