If JCS is just an abstraction layer I wonder why it has the problems identified with it? I would expect that it wouldn't be difficult to plug in EHCache to JCS if that is the case.

That's indeed the thing that I want to see: the abstraction of caching/store through a cache layer. Therefore we should not add EHCache or any other to our CVS, but add it to JCS, so that we can access it through the JCS interfaces. Joerg
