Could I move the EHCache-based store in its own block (unstable, for now, of course)? It seems to be behaving a lot better than JCS, and I seriously don't want to build the whole scratchpad just for one simple class and jar...

Some time ago I proposed the creation of a cache block [1] but there wasn't much interest at the time. I don't know if eventcache should be part of it but at least there is enough stuff in scratchpad already to justify such a block (CachingSource, EHCache, ExpiresCachingProcessingPipeline).

EHCache is used to implement the Store (used by the cache, but not the cache in itself).

I think that the two concerns are different.

Fair enough, it did cross my mind as well. But I also thought it might be desirable to minimize the number of blocks. Another option is to put it in excalibur store (we should all have commit privileges there as well).
