Just taking Logging as an example, former Log4J lead Ceki did exactly that
with SLF4J. I don't know, if any actual code was forked there, it's more
likely SLF4J inspired the new design of Log4J 2 (which took more than a
decade to improve over the old version ;-) here and there.
