Ok - of course no one can prevent you from starting another project. The alternative is to try to start it here, try to get interested people to join, and benefit from the Apache infrastructure and best practices while doing so. If that doesn't work, the Apache license does allow you to fork that code elsewhere, as long as that new place is not called "DeviceMap". -Bertrand
