I agree that rewriting that page should be done by someone with a better understanding, but if you (or anyone else) could point to specific things that need to be clearer, that helps people like me provide the answers. Nancy's earlier questions were good ones and should help when one of us has time to work on the page again.

It's far too easy for us "in the know" to forget that something we don't even think about (take as a given) is obscure or unknown to others. My favourite example of this is when I was trying to get set up to use CVS on the OOo website. First I had to get SSH access. After some days of frustration as people tried to help me and got nowhere, someone discovered that I was not a "member" of the Documentation Project. No one had said that was an essential first step! Indeed, I had been on the Docs mailing list for so long that I didn't realise that I wasn't a "member" of the project. (You'll notice that "become a member" is step 2 on the "How you can help" list now.)
