Hi Everyone,

My name is Alan de Leeuw. I haven't said anything so far because lurking is usually the best way to learn good manners on a mailing list. ( : I also wanted to see if there was anything I was really able to offer, as I don't have a programming background (yet). Everything I'm learning is pushing me that direction however, so who knows what the future holds.

I love just about anything technical. I run my own business, so I am crazy busy. I did 15 years of pretty close to full-time volunteer work while I was doing my 24 years (total) in school. None of those 24 years had anything to do with computers. Life makes me laugh at the transitions it sometimes brings.

My favorite slogan is from Telus here in Canada. "The Future is Friendly".

I believe that. I believe OpenSource is part of that. You hear people yammer about the Global Village and how we live in one. Well, we still have a lot of differences which are going to require a lot of talking to sort out. If there is one thing research has shown, it is that working together to find common solutions to common problems is one of the best ways to build relationships between groups of people who would otherwise believe they have nothing in common.

Global Warming, Terrorism, the Ozone layer, Access to computing resources and the tools to build more tools. The philosopy of Ubuntu, I love. We can build a paradise if we learn to work together for our common good. "I am what I am because of who we all are." We need each other to be the best we can be. I believe we need to believe we can make this world a paradise before we will actually be able to do it.

You guys have done an amazing job with OpenOffice. I'm not sure how I can help, but I will help where I can and when I can.

I couldn't find an example of what you were looking for in a short biography, so I hope this is it.

I have a B.Ed. (all grades), B.Sc. Biochem, B.A. (equivalency) Phys.Ed., English minor. Born and raised in Indonesia. Moved to Canada in early teens. Parents were missionaries.

Did some teaching.

Worked as IT for West Fraser before starting my business.

Developed a grading template if you guys might be able to find a use for it?

Alan

Dear OpenOffice.org Doc project members,

I'd like to remind those on this mailinglist that we have many
outstanding tasks with which we need help. We currently have many
comments on chapters in the user guide but only two of us are doing any
work on them. What is really needed is to have all the 1.1.x icons
replaced with 2.x icons. Tedious yes but essential to getting it out of
draft mode.
There is also a need for HOW-TOs, migrating the FAQs and, of course,
templates and clipart.
So, while comments on on-going work are welcome these are often delayed
by more pressing needs such as keeping up-to-date with features like
preview in browser and the new charting module. Please take a look at
29679 and the task list to see where you too can contribute.
Your project leaders are trying hard to keep going but we cannot do your
work.
