Ok sorry for the amount of traffic on this, but I’ve just got more infos on this from the LF.
They would like us to have the Summit and they would like to have it as an integral part of ApacheCon. They would provide us with: Quote: “ - room will be labeled as the Flex Summit (or other name ie CCC and TomcatCon) - you would be responsible to work with your community to program 5-6 talks for the day. These can come from the main CFP that is currently open (encourage people to submit), unless you already have talks in mind. - we'll provide an ApacheCon registration for one speaker from each session (any secondary speakers will be offered a discount) - anyone with an ApacheCon badge will be able to attend the summit, and any summit specific attendees will still need to have a full ApacheCon badge - we'll highlight the Summit on our co-located event page and the talks will be included in the overall event schedule (to launch in March) - we'll provide branding for the Summit in the form of a room sign, and include the summit on other shared signage - if you have any potential sponsors, I'd suggest asking them to sponsor ApacheCon as a whole, even at the lowest level, and we'll also note them as an ApacheFlex sponsor. “ So I think we should take this opportunity. I bet we would get the 5-6 talks/workshops/whatever to fill the room for one day. As I bet no one has yet submitted any Flex talks, I would like us to manage the talks without the ApacheCon CFP. Each Speaker will get a free pass for ApacheCon so we should take care in spreading talks throughout the team. While I’m at it … who would like to have a talk and be willing to prepare one? We should concentrate on FlexJS, I think. But that’s just my opinion. Objections? The other summits are all fully integrated into the ApacheCon and people can go to any of the summits they want and eventually visit events from multiple summits. I think we should go down that path. The only reason for me asking the LF about a separately bookable event was to make it easier for guys like Alex to only attend one day. But it guess the price for that is too high. I think we should do the Flex Summit and call it Apache FlexJS Summit. And again … the main reason for me wanting to do this, is to get part of the core Flex team together, meet, talk, set aside some of the differences and fill up the trenches between us that have started manifesting themselves more and more. Sort of a big kick-off meeting with us meeting, discussing things and getting the FlexJS ship towards its last part of the journey to the version 1.0. I see the online “conference” more as an additional thing to spread knowledge, but right now I think we need community. You don’t build community online. BUT, Alex here ponit us arguments which has sence to me. It look like we really didn't get enough attention and now I doubt we will get for that summit. I will wait a bit longer with TAC to see what will happen with that thread - If after some time I won't see more response I will leave TAC for another time - Otherwise I'm open to plan trip to Frankfurt in August if Miami won't work - It will be better financial time for me.
