That's what I though :-)

If you change the printer once you usually don't want to change the printer again each time you want to print the document to this printer. That's probably the reason why this printer is stored in the document.

If you open the document and don't have the stored printer the document should be printed on the default printer.
You are right. I haven't heard any complaints about that.
Re-reading the ODP (Orignial Dutch Post), the problem was someone on a different floor, who does have the same printer as someone else, but has a different default printer - on his own floor.

I know OOo keeps info about printer settings in the document file. To me that seems tricky or useless if no printer is stored.

So changing the behaviour described (apart from the priority given) will be difficult?
