Yes, your assumption is correct, the passwords should be properly removed when the passwords storing has been turned off in the UI. And I know no scenario where it would not be so.

Well, yes, that's sufficient for me as a developer. But as I wrote,
I was interested in that from a user's perspective who wants to wipe out
the password container, maybe without having access to the UI (I assume
when toggling persistence in the UI the stored passwords _are_ properly
wiped, aren't they?), and it seems there is no description where it is
stored. And yes, this user is paranoid ;-)
