Hello everyone,
I knew professors who created their presentations in Corel Draw, and
they looked even good.
I do not have a firm stance regarding merging the existing Draw and Impress.
I do have however a firm stance that both Draw and Impress are very poor
compared with todays capabilities and will loose on the long term. [I
will not emphasise Draw a lot in this post, maybe sometimes later.]
Some major features that are missing:
Both Adobe and Microsoft are developing scripting engines (Flash and
Silverlight) to create dynamic content. But Sun lacks such a language.
This is indeed a very bad prerequisite.
eLearning Tools have developed over the past 2-3 years at an increasing
pace. Impress (and even PPT) fare poor to these new technologies. Web is
the magic word and Internet presentations are high in the coming. Webex
is one example (though still very rudimentary) and there are many other
offers (like Medscape, Univadis, ...).
CMS: well, presentaitons just add up, and CMS capabilities come in
handy. Consider a big academic department, or a big company: Why not
reuse old content? Or easily find the relevant content? This is one of
the biggest advantages of electronic media.
There are many more issues.
Sincerely,
Leonard
