Any chance to have people report extensive details in the issue
(version numbers for drivers, hardware used etc.)?

Did you build with --enable-directx? If yes, and if your
installation contains some directxXXcanvas.uno.dll files, maybe your
card/driver combination refuses to work with DX canvas, or was
already blacklisted. In these cases, the options dialog just plain
hides the option checkbox, as there's nothing to choose then.

That's indeed the interesting question, but why not follow up on
