Yes, it's gaining quite a lot of momentum in the EU - more so than in
the US at this time. Not sure the reason, but it is an interesting trend.

Pretty much. It's all about making sure that the file format is
"rigidly defined" (so as to remove ambiguities), that everything you need is
contained inside, and that nothing "bad" is present (form fields are
actually just fine - provided you follow the rules for them).
