Yes :-) Although I would prefere if there was no need for a workaround.

It would be OK if I could access autoTexts from files that are not
within the path for autotexts.

I'm thinking of special purpose fonts that are not helpful in any other
context than in combination with the package/macro.
Furthermore the user might not have the necessary privileges to install
a font system-wide. (this is not a problem for linux, on the other hand
I don't know whether it is possible on windows to access fonts not in
the global fonts-directory)..
