As a JAX-RS committer my position is that the spec is as it is, will most likely never get changed in the way you want it to be, so I have to take care that all MBRs either are compliant with the spec, or do not claim compliance. I understand your position, but please do all wanted changes simply ontop of my commit, as my work ends here: Compliance is given in just the described case. Please note also that the EF is strict about compliance claims, so if incompliance persists, the EF will react in some way.
