Rick Kellogg commented on KNOX-528:
-----------------------------------
Good questions.
Optimally we would like to continue to use the standard SOLRJ client (both
binary and XML formats). Not certain this is possible. Apache Knox would just
operate like an invisible proxy that hides the physical cluster configuration
and provides security and logging.
Another goal would be to allow federation of multiple SOLR clusters
transparently behind a single endpoint. Assume cores are distinct between
clusters. In our deployment we will have tens of thousands of cores in just a
few years. We do not necessarily need fine grained security at the core level
but at least at the macro level. Suggest we have a pluggable security module
here so as to allow security at the SOLR cluster level or finer degree of
control. Will give security a bit more thought and try to contribute where I
can.
