Dear Jia Yanmin,
Some support for Tibetan in ICU (the platform that gives redering
support to OpenOffice on Linux) has been developed in Bhutan. There is a
a patch for adding such support in OpenOffice 2.0 (corresponding to ICU
2.6). There is also a patch for adding the support in 1.1.2. All this
works in standard Unicode. Instead of using precomposed glyphs, these
fonts use ligatures to assure correct height.
There is work being done on the improvment of this support to make the
rendering of Tibetan script faster, and to including recognition of
cluster boudries.
Also, we have been testing and it seems that we can use Tibetan on MS
platform, using Unicode OpenType fonts. Again, it only renders, it does
not do cluster recognition.
It would be great if you created support for Tibetan in OpenOffice 2.0,
then it will everafter be included in the standard source. Do you have a
locale file (we already have collation data, as it is identical to
Dzongkha)?

Jonathon Blake,
My Office Suite conform to an national character set standard for
Tibetan(set A) of China. This standard uses Unicode Private Use Area. Tibetan
current used pre-composed glyphs were encoded in this standard. I think it just
a transitional standard. As an Tibetan Office Suite, it should support Unicode
Standard. But there is no available complex text layout engine for tibetan.
The Tibetan fonts I used were developed by an company and not free.
In the OpenOffice.org for English, the users can input Chinese
characters to a TextBox of a dialog box too. How does OpenOffice.org do this?
And I want the TextBox can present Tibetan characters.
Thanks,
Jiayanmin

Are there are any fonts for Tibetan that are free (either beer or speech)?
If so, where do I find them?
