Hi Alex,
Far be it from me to interpret Sophie's words, but I do not think that
this is what she is saying. The fact that your problem may not to our or
her knowledge be solvable doesn't mean that anyone is avoiding the
problem, nor that we are telling you to go away. In this regard, your
comments to Sophie are out of line.
Sophie was clear in the French list : there is no solution for me and if
I can't adapt to
OpenOffice as it currently works, I'd better use Excel again.
I won't comment about why I intervene on the French list, but you were
saying that Excel meets exactly what you need. Because, we can't modify
this currently (please, see the thread on issu #1820, you'll understand
that this issue was/is not easy to adress), I told you that you're free
to use the software that meet you're needs.
Well, you have already received an answer about recompiling a library
that represents one possible solution. The fact that this solution may
be too complicated for you to put into operation does not make it any
less of a solution.
You're perfectly right, recompiling a library represents a possible
solution. So I've
always been right : a solution exists and I just can't accept somebody
tells me what
Sophie told me in the French list and the way she answered me. Let me
say again I like the
way free software are developped and supported. I myself help the others
in mailing lists
and forums, when I can, when I have the ability to do it. When I don't
know the answer to
a problem, I never say "what you ask for does not exist", I answer
nothing or I just say
"I don't know".
Again, I won't comment why I had to intervene on the French list, this
is not the topic here, and I do not have to justify my OOo engagement.
This is not because we are narrow minded and intolerant, as you said,
that we won't adress your setting needs, this is simply because our
resources are not so vast and we have first to answer the standard usage.
If you need help for compiling OOo, you may find it on
[email protected], you'll find most of the documentation translated
in French here :

Kind regards
Sophie
