Hi Jordi,

Hello,

Last year I worked on a Valencian adaptation of the Catalan OOo strings
for OpenOffice 1.1.3.

For this, I built a new language from scratch, using the Catalan
strings, adapting them to the Valencian variety and adding a new full
language.

I wonder if there's another way of doing this. Does anyone have
experience with language variants in OOo? Is Spanish (Argentina) a
completely different language to Spanish (Spain), in OOo's eyes, or can
both share the common data and just add the separate diverging bits?

The prefered way is to use a new language or you will run into i18n issues ( document language id, spellchecker, ... ). The main problem is that there is no way to do a roundtrip isocode - microsoft id - isocode.

Would a Valencian patch need to get a new internal language code

Yes

allocated, or could it have a subcode that depends on the Catalan code
(was 37 in 1.1.x)?

I've tried to find updated l10n docs for OpenOffice.org 2.0, but I can
only find references to the 1.1.x guides. As things have changed quite a
bit, I wonder where to find newer information.

Did you already see Javier's docs @ http://www.khmeros.info/tools/ ?

Any help appreciated, thanks.

Jordi

Ivo
