I have heard that files produced from Rosetta are copyrighted by
Canonical. Is it true?

In their legal page I read this:

"In addition, the translator grants to Canonical Ltd the right to publish
the translation and use the translation in other software packages under
their license."

So this means that translators using this are effectively allowing
Canonical to do what they want to do with their work (even using it in
closed source stuff). This could be unacceptable for some teams.
