I just realized that there also seems to be problem re permissions within the menus.

The user "lenya" within the default publication should not be able
to publish a document which is correct, but there seems to be bug
because the Publish Menu item is not greyed.

That's not a bug.

The user "lenya" might have permissions to publish pages within
the subtree of a page.

I think that's quite confusing.

She is allowed to publish the whole subtree,
in this case only the pages with the correct permissions will be
published.

what about performance if there is a huge subsitetree below a specific page?

I think we should separate "publish a page" and "publish a sitetree".

IMO the checkbox is sufficient,

well, I don't think so, because it's confusing if one clicks
on publish and nothing happens, but the menu item is active.
See myself as an example ;-)

but maybe two menu items are less
confusing re. the permissions.

that's one way of doing it or the other would be to send a note
and explain why the page cannot be published ...

Re performance: How is it currently implemented?

Thanks

Michi
