phase 3b: more or less at the same time, antonio steps up as RM without much fuss and calls a vote. my *guess* is that he was becoming irritated by the rising tension and unfriendly undertone of the discussion and wanted to shut people down for a while.

Not exactly... I stepped up for this reasons:

1. I don't want to see committers beign worried to do a release. I think we should allow everybody to focus on what they do the best. 2. I will it for the Lenya health. As Ross pointed out: "Without releases the community will die - no release = no new users = no new devs = no no committers = no new releases."
3. To have the job done.
4. To show up that there is peer recognition for the RM position.

I though I will need to do a release at the best case every 2 months. I hope this cannot be too dificult. ;-)

I will like to add, we (Michi, Torsten and I) know each other F2F. I don't feel any tension between the mail exchange. We only have a different Point of view. While michi wants to add a new responsability to the committer status, other of us don't see the need for it. ;-)

phase 4: everybody is happy except michi, which is understandable, since his original point had been completely lost. however, the latest mails on that topic seem profoundly non-relaxed and it's hard for me to extract the important points among all the heat.

Welcome to the Open Source "politics". ;-)

now, could everyone involved get themselves a coffee and some fresh air?

antonio is willing to start with the job, that takes a lot of the pressure away. with some time gained thus, why not just discuss and eventually vote on linking committer status with the willingness to do a release?

Yep. I think we should start a vote asking people if they want to have this new rule on the community: "do release when needed or retire".

shutting up now,

Please, don't. Thanks for your comments. It was a nice summary.

Best Regards,

Antonio Gallardo.
