What I find fascinating (and annoying) about this thread and related threads here, is that someone has already stepped up to the plate. Someone has a personal reason for doing the job, no why not let them do it?

well, I don't know what the reason was that Antonio stepped up. But before he stepped up some people already offered to do releases based on rotation concept. So, why not share the load?

Perhaps the problem is that somewhere along the line a title "Release Manager" has been applied to the "post". Strip the title, focus on this release, recognise the contributions being made and get on with it.

Let the meritocracy do its work, there is not a problem here.

as you noted yourself it's important for the community to do releases, but nobody did them anymore and it seems to me everyone just waited until the first one couldn't stand it any longer. I don't think that's the spirit our group should
have (to wait until someone will give in).

Also I think the PMC members resp. committers do have certain responsibilities and if one doesn't have the time or whatever reason then one should step back from this role (e.g. become inactive resp. emeritus).

It seems to me that most people here got anxious because I wasn't very diplomatic and I agree I wasn't dimplomatic at all.

Diplomacy is one thing to discuss and the actual content of the discussion something else.

And I think the actual discussion hasn't been finished and it doesn't really help the community in the end if Antonio will step up just that "everyone" is happy again. The problem will arise again and again.

I am a lazy bastard myself and it's cool if I don't have to do releases myself, but in the longterm I don't believe it will work out. I believe in longterm strategies and sustainability.
