Hi Bob,

Thanks for your comments.
Forgive me if I am not following the whole thread here, but
http://lenya.apache.org/1_4/installation/source_version.html says that
Lenya *does* require several files to be in the Lenya endorsed dir in
order to run under Tomcat (and WebLogic).
Basically, this document is not related to this commit. The document describes how to setup "endorsed libs" in a working environment. There is no such "Lenya endorsed dir" requirement at all.

Maybe that requirement no
longer applies to Lenya 1.4, but I endured many days' frustration
trying to get this right for my Lenya 1.2.4 site a few months ago.
Keep in mind the same apply for forrest, lenya or any other cocoon-based application. It is a cocoon concern. This is not a lenya "special" concern as some people wrongly pointed out in previous mails on this thread.
Please don't remove this capability unless someone has first tested on
a wide combination of Lenya versions and app servers (especially
WebLogic and Oracle app server).
Don't worry, the discussed changes does not remove this capability at all.
And remember that many organizations
don't use Java 1.5 yet for a variety of compelling reasons.
We have no plans to drop java 1.4.x support at all. Sorry if you read this between lines. It was not the intention at all. At the same time we should support java 1.5. The java 1.5 is like the egg-chicken problem and somehow we need to start.

Best Regards,

Antonio Gallardo.
