Kevin,

If I may I'd like to clarify the situation regarding en_GB for OOo MySpell.

The en_GB dictionary used for OOo is so extensively reworked including the
use of other reliable sources for British English that I do not believe
that it can be considered as being based on the Aspell dictionary any
longer. The original one was, I agree, but the current version is
completely reworked.

| almost all the problems. Aspell dictionaries are based on SCOWL which is
| a combination of several high quality word lists available on the net.
| The end results is a very high quality and complete word list. The word
| lists are currently available in several spellings (en_US, en_GB with -ise
| spelling, en_GB with -ize spelling, and en_CA). The only possible problem

The en_GB version contains both -ise and -ize versions of words. The reason
for this decision is that there are two schools of thought in the UK and
the choice of which to use is a personal or house preference and neither is
wrong.

| with the en_GB and en_CA dictionaries is that they may be missing locale
| specific words and common place names. Something with I will be willing
| to correct provided someone provides me with suitable lists.

Most of the common locale specific words have been added to en_GB and many
of the locale words that are not applicable removed. If anyone finds errors
in the en_GB dictionary I'd appreciate hearing about them. An updated
version with more errors corrected is in the pipeline at the moment so now
would be a good time to let me have any error reports.

As said before I only speak for the en_GB OOo MySpell dictionary and not
for any of the others. I also cannot speak for the Aspell dictionaries. :-)

| The Aspell English dictionary is available at
| http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/aspell/dict/en/. In order to view the word lists
| you will need the prezip-bin or word-list-compress utility distributed
| with Aspell. A script is included which will generate the word list from
| the SCOWL source which is available at http://wordlist.sourceforge.net/.
|
| I strongly suggest that the OO dictionaries are resynced with the
| latest version of the Aspell dictionaries.

Regarding en_GB I'm not sure of the merit in doing this. We spent many
hundreds of man hours cleaning it up in the first place. It may be worth
running a cross-check to find errors (both ways) though.

Regards
David.
