I had this problem at work, we found we couldn't use anything other than the 
Dev version of SQL2000.

I've never successfully run SQL2000 and SQL2005 on the same box. Indeed my 
SQL2005 install seems to not let me execute SQL in the query Builder inside 
Management Studio. V strange.
