it works!

FYI: -

1) switched to a named instance
2) used port 1466 (ensured port in Network client, client connect & regedit)
3) installed SQL2000 SP4
4) added hostfile entry
5) installed security tools

I didn't check to see if installation was working after step 4 - but
somewhere between 4 & 5 it started working.

CFIDE now successfully connects to NORTHWIND

Thx for all previous assistance once again, I am now going to leave the
office & run down the street wearing Archimedes bath robe!

profess to be a SQL infrastructure whizz - why can it just not WORK! WHY do
they have to break something that was working! Moreover, why fix it for the
new software and leave it broken for the old one.
