Fun and games mate, I had this problem with SQL2000 as well & SQL sp4 - I
should have blogged my complete solution. The solution to this is explained
in depth on Charlie Aienhart's (spelling??) blog - sorry don;t have the link
handy.

Essentially you need to enable TCP/IP for your named instance SQL Server
'cos by default this is not installed.

Refer to the link below, though this is for J2EE servers, the screenshots
are the same for CF.

Let me know how you get on: -

I have finally got a new 64-bit pc and am trying to get around a few
problems with coldfusion. (Vista Ultimate)

I have set up cf using its own server
http://127.0.0.1:8500/CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm
and that seems to work fine.

I have also installed MS SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition but I can't
seem to get a datasource registered with CF.

I have tried to update the driver but no joy.

Have also tried setting up an obdc connection in windows which it allows
me to do but Coldfusion can't connect to that either.
Error accessing available odbc datasources. - Cannot open
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\ODBC Data Sources: Windows error 2
occurred. The system cannot find the file specified.

Any ideas.

Thanks
Allan
