Also take a look at using a framework.  We've been using Coldbox (together
with CF8) for a major internal application with tens of thousands of llines
of code and have yet to come across a bottleneck.
Also, if you stick with CF you can give accurate timescales for milestones
in the project.  Using another language you are not familiar with could
prove very costly for you with the increased time it will take you to do the
most basic of things in a new language.
