(speaking from where I used to work) We used Intershop 4, but it conflicted with SecureIIS (application-level firewall from www.eeye.com) and therefore it was no surprise that it was taken out by hackers in China because we couldn't check for buffer overflows in IIS. We had to drop the box and it was never brought up again. Coincidently, nor did we use Intershop again. All e-commerce projects since then were done in CF and did not conflict with SecureIIS.
We also had problems with product variations (can't remember what now, but take some time to check it out anyway). I liked the idea of the plugins that came with it. I didn't like the idea that if Intershop moved from Perl to some other language that the plugins would need to be rewritten. Can Intershop be load-balanced (hardware/software)? - Peter H. -----Original Message----- From: Ross Williams [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 31 July 2002 12:59 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [ cf-dev ] OT Actinic No problems at all - any half-decent developer will pick it up fine. I was playing about with Intershop4 at the time, which was great for our purposes. Can't speak for current versions though. Took me about 5 days to customise the store templates. The cost for the hosted store was around 250/month I believe, but that was around summer 2000 I think. Anyway - couldn't fault them when we used them, Cheers, Ross -----Original Message----- From: Mark Smyth [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 31 July 2002 11:27 To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: RE: [ cf-dev ] OT Actinic not the expert there i've build a couple of Intershop stores in the past, thats it (i try and avoid intershop where possible so I can concentrate on CF) but we've built and hosted over loads of intershop stores in the past so a couple of the guys who have been here years are real pros. Feel free to give me a buzz and i'll put you through to them 01865 880800 We're also actinic partners, but havn't used it in anger yet. But one of the guys has been evaluating it for us mark smyth -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 31 July 2002 11:05 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [ cf-dev ] OT Actinic ok, how about more details of the hosting, to start with. what is required for this? But its still a bit of work if you want to break far enough from the standard layouts. Basically its a good product for the price. Once you've built the templates you just give it to the client to enter all their products. They have the software on their computer and that is used to synchronise the data with the web server, and download the orders. As for content management (other than the catalogue), I didn't even know it had one. What I've done in the past is added a ColdFusion RMS for the news articles, feedback etc. As long as you're not going to do some excessive customisation, its pretty quick for developing the commerce side of the site... but I couldn't give you any idea of how much quicker because it depends on so many things... how quickly you learn how to develop in actinic, what design you want to use, what customisation if any. All that crap. Best bet is to grab the 30 day trial off the site and play with it for a day.
