It was well worth the money spent. Everyone uses a conference for different things. Some of it for us was just networking. Seeing old friends, meeting new ones, gaining some ideas, seeing what the MM members have to say at this junction in the road, seeing if there are any new tips and tricks to be gleaned from the sessions AND from just speaking to people. Seeing what there is for the future, feeling for the "buzz" ... Trying to guage enthusiam. You can get a better feel for that stuff at a conference than you can from a mailing list. I did not see the "advert" sessions, so luckily did not have to appear rude and walk out half-way through. I just hate having to do that. ;) But all the sessions I did see were excellent. The one that was given by Breeze was particularly interesting to me, not because of the topic (I'd already seen that presentation 3 times) but because Breeze is new to the MM lineup. Aside from a few technical glitches in the beginning, I thought it was an excellent use of Flash Comm and Breeze. Looking forward to learning more about using those two together to whip up some WebEx replacement solutions. (WebEx is charging a fortune these days.) Conferences are a very very integral part of maintaining a presence in the community and keeping your finger on the pulse. Too many "bosses" believe they are a waste of time, and that's too bad. They are missing some valuable experience. Just one more example, then I'm done being a windbag ... At DevCon 2001 (besides finding my lovable husband) I picked up a tip that saved me weeks worth of time and effort and made me a decent packet of money, not from the actual sessions themselves ... But from listening to a developer giving a demo of his skills in the CF Community suite. We were just all sitting around, nattering when he decided to show us some of his tricks. You can't gain access to that kind of stuff unless you attend conferences with your peers. (Oh, one more thing I brought back from this year's CF-Europe ... A lovely nasty flu.
