I know for a fact that someone on this list (who shall remain nameless until they own up) has done something very similar. Like Stephen said, all image transformations are performed using ImageMagick via CF, which writes the generated image to the server, which the flash movie then loads directly from the web server. By doing it this way there's no need to take a "snapshot" because the latest image has actually already been created and you can just provide the download link.
